COVID-19 UPDATE

Dear MECC Clients and Families,

In order to stop the spread of illness and protect the vulnerable members of our community,  all in-person sessions will be cancelled until otherwise notified. This includes all in-person sessions, COSP Classes, and any related meetings.

With the amount of information that is continuously available regarding COVID-19, we encourage that you limit the amount of social media time that you expose yourself or your child(ren) to. Rather than social media, we suggest that you address COVID-19 in a calm, age appropriate and deliberate manner with your child(ren). We further suggest that you role model handling this information and new environment in a calm, regulated manner. Due to the change in routine, we would also suggest that you develop your own new routine with your family that limits time on social media and encourages relational engagement, exercise and mindfulness. Journaling can also be a tool that children use to organize their emotions related to the recent changes. Should your child be too young to write, encourage them to draw and allow them to share and process their emotions. REMEMBER, ALL EMOTIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE. There are no “wrong” emotions for children to feel, however when they share this with you verbally, you then can guide them in ways they can regulate their emotions effectively and safely. Do remember that the habituated practice of these skills is what supports a child in shifting patterns and developing healthy responses to their emotions. Should you need support with how to more specifically support your child, please do not hesitate to contact you or your child’s therapist outside of your regularly scheduled telehealth session.

You and your child’s health are of the utmost importance to the team of clinicians at MECC. You will find that we have attached below various resources within the community, as well as resources that support your child’s well being.

As there are updates or changes recommended by NE Dept. of HHS and the CDC, we will update our website regarding in person sessions. We will also inform current clientele via phone. Know that we will greatly miss seeing each client and parent who enters our office at MECC. We are all very committed to doing what we can to support this process to telehealth. We will closely monitor updates related to COVID-19 and will return to in office sessions as soon as possible.

Our priority at MECC is the safety of the clients we serve, their families and our staff. We hope that telehealth offers a pathway to support with the highest quality of services in a safe and informed manner.

MECC values the benefits of creative arts and play therapy.
